General Information

General Information Lime sulphur is one of the few organic-approved, synthetic fungicides and insecticides/acaricides. With the expansion and popularity of organic production in recent years, the use of lime sulphur in agriculture has increased dramatically.

In horticultural dormant sprays, lime sulphur is mixed with an oil, like mineral oil, to help it stick to plant surfaces. These sprays contain a high concentration of lime sulphur that is only safe to use on plants that are dormant, because the sulphur can burn leaf tissue.

Lime sulphur can also be mixed in weaker concentrations with water for use when plants have leafed out. Even diluted, it is important not to spray lime sulphur on plants during hot, sunny days, as the sulphur can cause sunscald.
