The Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy

The Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) is an institute which connects its members to much needed information and news regarding the developing technology in mining and metallurgical industries with local as well as international sources. The institute also aims at bringing the industry together to share views, research, education and experiences with one another as well as with students.

The SAIMM was founded in 1894 and therefore has been serving its members for over 125 years. The institute started a few years after the gold cyanidation process, this process was invented which saved South Africa’s gold mining industry.

The SAIMM has multiple existing branches which can be found across Africa namely The Western Cape, Zululand, Johannesburg, The Free State, Bushveld, Pretoria, Mpumalanga, Namibia and Zambia.
